08:19 pm - where Turks fanfiction probably comes from
Home sick. Woozily beginning to play FFVII, mostly to give me some traction on some long-overdue Turks fanfiction. I'm playing Cloud as a classic country boy hick, curious about everything; this approach pays off in chunks and chunks of dialogue I've never seen before. Like the guards at the bottom of Sector 7.

Guard 1: Hey, I got tickets to Loveless! Wanna go?

Guard 2: You jackass, the city's under martial law, we can't go--

Guard 1: Hey, it's cool, they've added SOLDIERS to the police force now...Boy, it's been awhile since SOLDIER was mobilized. Did I ever tell you I flunked the SOLDIER entrance exam?

This really reminds me of something someone very smart, forget who, said captured the beauty of the original Star Wars movie: a throwaway Death Star scene in which we, in Ben Kenobi's POV, overhear a couple of Storm Troopers talking about some new shiny-ness, the BT316. A land speeder? an iPod? We hear them just for a second.

The world, the whole world, lives in those details.

I giggled so hard I almost peed my pants. XD

I'm almost, but not quite, at critical Midgar mass to work on my piece of Turks fanfiction. I will have to rewrite the beginning of it, which is making me a sourpuss. But I'm having so much fun standing around in people's living rooms. Have you gone and checked out the Honeybee Inn's occupied rooms? The Queen's Room? Absolutely astounding - a parody of the ENTIRE GAME happens in there.

You can do it! It'll be so awesome, why, all thoughts of sourpusshodd shall depart from thee!

The only scene I haven't seen in FF7? The date with Yuffie.

I'm snickering just thinking about the inn now. ISH ODDLY FITTING CONSIDERING WHAT I'M WRITING.

I can't believe you actually managed to find that little snippet IN GAME. I am in awe. You are the player of much win. Just...pure win.

In my ludology class, we were discussing gaming styles and approaches, and someone brought up "the explorer," the player who simply must know the map/hidden places/levels of the entire game, and will not move on to a new section until they've completely discovered all they can about their current one. You, you are doing this. But you are doing this with the narrative, rather than with the map. This is very, very cool.

I am in awe of this crazy game...! This is my third time playing the game and this is all new dialogue with random minor characters - that's what gets me - all these lives going on. Like the Shinra manager on the train who has a run-in with Cloud and Barret - if you talk to him again he acts all macho and you can see him thinking about how he's going to amaze his coworkers with his tale of bravery...! Go, Shinra guy, go! XD

Did you know that if you take the time to stop and talk to passengers during the race to get off the train--this is right after the first reactor bomb, right before the second one--that they will say all kinds of wacky things? I've saved a game so I can go back and talk to more of them.

One guy said, "Yeah, I can't believe it either, me and these two guys, after all that we woke up here buck-naked."

Or something to that effect. I will attempt to transcribe.

It made me howl with laughter.
